Flock: Even Lazier Blogging

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Yup, This post was posted in 3 clicks, and, er however many keystrokes it took to write this.

I look so hard for things to make my blogging easier, yet I barely ever do any of it…

Moving House Soon….

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Yeah, and I get to leave the leaky walls, windy days and creepy mystery bugs behind!

And then, finally, get busy on my site and my fonts again…

National Holidays

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

I noticed my Second Life income is suspiciously low for a friday night (pacific time), so I thought I’d see if there were any worldwide national holdays that might be putting a crimp in SL’s population for the day.

It’s worse than I thought.

It’s USA National Chocolate-Covered Raisin Day.

Hunting Demons

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Over christmas, I had a wander round Borders, and was delighted to find that The Demon Hunter’s Handbook is out.

It’s a project I worked on, distressing the pages and laying out all the content. I stained, burned, tore, and bled on pieces of crunchy parchment for this project…

Here’s it’s listing on Amazon, although it doesn’t show any pictures from inside. Boo.

You’ll just have to mooch your way into your local Borders and have a look…

Secondlife and newfound glory

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Ooh, but I’m a lazy blogger. Bad, bad blogger.

Not without fair reason. I’ve been having my nights consumed and my bodyclock destroyed by Second Life, which is at once the most pointless yet the most potential-filled thing I’ve ever seen, depending upon the angle from which you look at it.

Anyway, my weird unlikely little Sl career of fashion design and tech toy scripting is proving to be the best little part-time job I ever had, not to mention it makes money in my sleep for me.

Did I say money? I meant a limited user license agreement to use parts of the Second Life metaverse. But it’s still excangeable for money, so it’s all good.

Not only this, but I’m the proud and glowing recipient of a Princes’ Trust business loan, and will be launching my nice shiny official-looking new site very soon. So this one can devolve into mad personal sideprojects and crazy portfolio!

Impending

Only a week away from business loan, and big fat career takeoff!

Absurdly excited, anticipationary and impatient.

Maybe you can tell by this post’s time.

My fonts on pub menus

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Ohh, the glamour….

One of my fonts, Hombré, is now gracing the signs, menus, and general parephenalia of some pubs in the Pathfinder chain.

A Look at Hombré:

The Image Studio (to be)

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

…Next project!…

My next site will be at www.the-image-studio.net, and is all to do with professional appearance for business.

Of course, there’s nothing at the site yet. I’m only blogging it to make sure the Googlebot takes notice of its location.

Nothing wrong with that, is there?

www.logcabin.org.uk

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

The Log Cabin website, my first site for a charity, is well and truly up and running!

Being a charity for special needs children, doing the website made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside… It was loads of fun to go down to Ealing and mess around on the adventure playground with the kids, creeping up on them for photos.
And very pleased with it I am too.

Ipod Nano Joy

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

The Mp3 Player cycle has come full circle. Well, mine has.

I used to have an Ipod shuffle, but I ended up selling it to a friend to get a bigger Mp3 player, a Q-be (or MobiBlu Cube), which ended up with bad blocks of data, and was returned for a 1Gb keydrive-style player.
Which, after 2 months, decided that aaa batteries last less time than albums, even short ones.
So, back it went in favour of a 1GB Ipod nano.

There’s simply no way not to love the free 12-month guarantee Dixons/Currys have.

I parted with 8/10ths of what I paid over a year ago, and now I have a big fat screen, easy syncing, audioscrobbling, iphoto action, ical and contacts, and, most importantly of all, my music doesn’t sound like it’s being bubbled up through a speaker in a bowl of soup anymore.

Hooray!

Creepy Mystery Bugs

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Caught two of these persistent little monsters last night. Never seen one before, as far as I know, and their ridiculously large legs compared to their body baffle me as to their genus, phylum, or whichever’s the right word for ‘kind of creature’.

Much as I’d like to know the etymology of everything upon this tawdry globe’s surface, I have no idea whatsoever what they are. All I know is, they’re clumsy but fast, hang out in unlikely places, and clung like their lives depended on it to the glass I used to put them out the window with. They’re about 8 Millimetres long in the body.

I could only get a shot of the underbelly while I had them in their glass prisons, but if anyone can tell me what these are, and if they’re at all offensive, I’d be much obliged.

I don’t normally mind bugs, but I’m getting a creepy feeling in my toes now… Probably the result of looking at bug sites for ages last night. Eeeeeeew.

My Icons

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Since humble icons were where I first started out when I was playing with the UI of my dad’s first mac, I thought I’d link them here in all their untold glory.

Tom’s Icons 1, 2 and 3 were first released on the coverCD of Macformat magazine, sometime in the mid-90s. Supplied here as originally supplied there. Made in Mac OS 9 (Well… Systems 7-8.5, really)…So they’re going to be chunky-looking.

The Sole Trading icons are a nice decorative set
of stone tiles with emblems and images.

The rest are mysterious new ones I’ve banged together to keep my dock interesting.

All the Icons are Mac only.

Oh, and Paisley Climax was my teenage rock/punk band ;)

Bugtest Tuesday

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Ah, a glamorous Tuesday afternoon bugtesting PHP code because scripters have been running daemons through one of my sites.

Who’d have thunk that
include $_GET['page'];
could have almost got my site torn down for breach of terms & conditions?

Well, PAH unto thee, foul remote scripters. I deflect your threats with a simple

$pg = $_GET['page'];
$httptest = substr($pg, 0, 4);
if ( $httptest == “http” ) {
echo “Bizarre URL Jiggerypokery in action. Stop it. “;
echo $pg;
echo ” Is not local to this server. Don’t do that.”;
} else {
include $_GET['page'];
}

Have at thee!

Feel totally free to replicate the above code. Just sling php tags and the appropriate line breaks in it where blogger needed them taken out.

Blogger widget for Mac OS X bug

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

You just can’t paste code into it. It makes its invisible upload client quit on you, and the widget has to be restarted.

How do I know? See next post.
